Apple WWDC 2020 Keynote
Hey Guys, great news! Apple got in page widgets, in 2020... I know! Tim Cook gave the keynote address today and its focused mainly on the iOS 14 and while this keynote is aimed to developers, consumers can see what's in the pipeline as well. In my opinion the only notable announcement is that their Macs will now be running on Apple-made chips (still not notable enough for me to switch from Windows). Apple will now be moving to ARM-Based "Apple Silicon" chips which are geared to improve device efficiency. This means that Apple will no longer be reliant on Intel in terms of updates.
Back to the topic of iOS 14, Apple announced some changes to the software. They're revamping the pages and how they are organized. One of the notable new features is the widgets being brought to the first page. You can move it around and the nearby apps will rearrange to how you like. If you're not locked in a iPhone bubble, you've probably had the words 'But, Android does that.' Yes, well now apple has it some 3 years later . For me, this could have been a side note announcement and not a focal point. It's not exactly a ground breaking feature.
iOS did receive some notable upgrades however, there is a new translate app which offers almost real time translations for conversations between two speakers. Apple CarPlay gain a cool new feature that allows you the ability to unlock your car using a compatible iPhone (features won't be available in cars until next year). You can also share your car keys with approved drivers.
iOS Watch 7 now helps you get the best rest possible. The native sleep tracking app now ensures you go to sleep and wake up when you want. But, one cool feature is the 'hand washing detection'. The watch will detect when you're washing your hands and time you to ensure you're washing for the adequate amount of time.
The iPad got some love with some new features and additions. One being handwriting recognition with "Scribble", users can treat hand writing as if it were typed. You can select and manipulate and covert to typed text. AirPods got a boost with Apple playing around with directional sound. Particularly the AirPods pro where you can be fully subversive.
Those were my notable takeaways from the keynote. Nothing really extravagant to write home about. What were your thoughts on today's presentation? Discuss in the comments.
Great read!!
